ARC lied!
We were assured by Animal Rescue Cooperative ARC that they were no longer handing out kangaroo meat. Yet in a Facebook post 3 days ago from an animal care facility in NSW, it shows kangaroo meat has indeed been given to this facility by ARC.
We are not alone in making ARC aware of the importance of not giving away free kangaroo meat. Many others, including ARC volunteers, have brought this to ARC management's attention.
Sadly everyones concerns appear to be falling on deaf ears and it appears ARC is prepared to lie, so they can continue to distribute kanagroo meat.
Why is important stop ARC handing out free kanagroo meat?
ARC claim its better to give the kangaroo meat away than throw it in the bin. Thats not true!
The message that is being sent to pet owners who receive free kangaroo meat is this: If a wildlife support charity like ARC provide kangaroo meat, then it must be ok for pet owners to buy it.
And if that kangaroo meat is next to a wildlife group sign like WIRES, then it must be ok to feed kangaroo meat to pets.
This is endorsing kangaroo meat as pet food.
ARC is creating demand for kangroos meat
Smart businesses hand out free "samples" to prospective customers to entice them to buy - it's a common product marketing strategy and its used because it works.
Giving out free kangaroo meat will create a bigger demand for kangaroo meat, which will result in more kanagroos being slaughtered.
